Bungie will offer beta access perk to those who pre-order Destiny

Destiny was one of the most talked about games at E3 earlier this year, and the game has not lost any of its momentum as we begin moving into the holiday season. It will be one of the hottest games on the market when it launches in early 2014, and now its developer, Bungie, has given gamers a way to gain early access.

Today, Bungie began releasing a limited number of pre-orders to select retailers around the country. Those who pre-order the game will receive access to the games beta shortly before launch. All pre-orders will get early access regardless as to which system the game was purchased for, and redemption codes will be either printed at the time of purchase or emailed directly to the customer. Destiny will be available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Half-Life 3 seemingly confirmed after Valve trademarks name in Europe

Last week, most of the tech and gaming world expected two things to happen. First, we thought that the Steam Box would be unveiled, and it was for the most part. The other big announcement we expected from Valve was an unveiling of Half-Life 3, but unfortunately all we got was a Steam-based operating system and a funky but cool looking controller.

Today, a recent trademark filing was made public that all but confirms the existence of Half-Life 3. On September 29, Valve filled to trademark the name Half-Life 3 in Europe. While the filing of a trademark is nothing new, this could signify that Valve is gearing up for a mass marketing campaign for the third installment in the Half-Life series. Alternatively, this could be another prank by Gabe Newell to troll the Half-Life conspiracy theorists. I will leave it up to our readers to take it as they wish.

Battlefield 4 makes better use of 8 threaded CPUs, uses more GPU too

Our Tweakipedia test bed is getting a workout tonight, benching (and playing of course) Battlefield 4. As you can see from the screenshot below, our Core i7 4770K is being used at 61%, and ranges up to around 70-75% at times, depending on what is going on.

TweakTown image news/3/3/33218_10_battlefield_4_makes_better_use_of_8_threaded_cpus_uses_more_gpu_too.jpg

As for our NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 SLI setup, it is pretty much maxing it out with around 90% average utilization per GPU at 2560x1440 on our ASUS PB278Q monitor. We're going to do some more testing on Battlefield 4, where we'll test out some results at 7860x1440, which should really stress this system out.

We should have a look at the Battlefield 4 performance in an article in the next day or so, so stay tuned, folks! Oh BTW, it's pretty awesome so far! It does feel more "consoley" in the game itself, but the menus and field of view, etc are all improved. You can crank it right up to 120 degrees, which is quite the surprise from DICE.

PS4's Killzone: Shadow Fall will be a 50GB download

Sony UK's Fergal Gara when talking to Eurogamer had something interesting to say: that Killzone: Shadow Fall is going to be close to 50GB when it becomes available. Yes, 50 gigabytes.

TweakTown image news/3/3/33215_05_ps4_s_killzone_shadow_fall_will_be_a_50gb_download.jpg

Gara was talking about the "play while you download!" feature when he said: "The Play as you Download functionality, for example, means you don't need the whole file before you go. This is a little bit counterbalanced by the fact the files themselves are getting bloody big. Killzone: Shadow Fall is an uber file - I think it's cracking on for 50GB. It looks it, too, when you see it."

The PS4 has a built-in 500GB HDD, so you won't run out of room too quickly, but if all games are 30-50GB, then that is going to fill up rather fast. For people like myself, stuck in backwards Australia with our Internet access that is quite slow, it's going to hurt, a lot.

GTA Online launches tomorrow, prepare for packed servers

The next 24 hours is the best time to be a gamer in the existence of the human race, with both the Battlefield 4 Beta and GTA Online launching in the same 24 hour period.

GTA Online launches at 7am Eastern, and is free for anyone who already owns Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar has provided some guidelines for GTA Online, so that players are ready for some fun. The developer isn't exactly sure when GTA Online will launch, but it should be early tomorrow morning:

Access to Grand Theft Auto Online is free with your copy of Grand Theft Auto V. On October 1st there will be a small downloadable Title Update released on PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE. Upon installation of that Title Update, direct access to begin GTA Online will be unlocked in your GTAV game menu. You will be able to jump right into GTA Online via the 4th (bottom) slot in your GTAV character wheel. We've received many questions asking for a specific confirmation of what exact time GTA Online will be available but of course this is contingent on both Title Updates becoming available on each console's network. As a general timeframe, we do expect the Title Update to become available on PSN and Xbox LIVE starting around 7AM ET tomorrow morning, and your best bet is to stay tuned throughout the day here at the Rockstar Newswire and by following us on Twitter and Facebook where we will be keeping everyone updated.

RumorTT: Grand Theft Auto V to hit PC hard drives on November 22

Since the first hints of GTA V hit the wires, the tech media world has been buzzing with rumors that the game may never launch on the PC platform. Unfortunately as time progressed, that rumor began to look more and more like reality. The PC gaming community even launched a Change.org petition based around bringing GTA V to PC, which gathered more than 500,000 signatures.

Fortunately, it appears that all of our worries and pleas to Rockstar may have been answered. The website gta5tv.com posted a report over the weekend that suggests the fastest selling game in history will infact be making a deput on the PC. The launch date is said to coincide with the Xbox One launch date of November 22, and apparently the information came straight from the source itself: Rockstar Games.

If you take a step back and look at some recent rumors and leaks, it seems like a November launch is really going to happen. This is good news for PC gamers everywhere as the PC will be able to showcase the most expensive game ever made in a whole new light. GTA V will look amazing on the PC, and is said to feature 2K graphics and will run on DirectX 11.

Crytek's Ryse still runs at 1600x900, CEO calls it Full HD experience

We reported not long ago that Ryse was going to be running at 1600x900 and then upscaled to 1920x1080, which looks to now be fully confirmed by German developer, Crytek.

TweakTown image news/3/3/33197_01_crytek_s_ryse_still_runs_at_1600x900_ceo_calls_it_full_hd_experience.jpg

What is weirder, is that the studio seems fine with it, and so does CEO and President of Crytek, Cevat Yerli. Yerli has confirmed that Ryse renders at 1600x900, and upscales to 1080p. He specifically said on his Twitter account: "#Ryse there is not one single downgrade compared to E3, promised! Only UPGRADES in the final push towards finalling phase! Its FULL HD XP!"

It does get worse, as Yerli then tweets "#Ryse runs at 1600x900 for best perf&res, we apply our upscaler for AA, framebuffer native 1080p. SAME as E3 XboxOne! No change, No compromise!" Well, I'd consider a full 320 pixels wide and 180 pixels high missing, a huge compromise. Yerli believes this is "native 1080p" which scares me... as it is far from running at native res if there's upscalers involved.

Vanished, an experimental horror game that uses only audio

Horror games seem to be experimented with more than other genres, which is exciting, but Pixel Heart Studios' 'Vanished' seems like quite the idea. Vanished is an audio-only game, featuring no graphics, no images, and no walls - your imagination is where the scares take place.

TweakTown image news/3/3/33191_01_vanished_an_experimental_horror_game_that_uses_only_audio.jpg

The world of Vanished is "without light, with no memories of how you got there and no clues on why everything has disappeared." Vanished is free until October 1 for iOS devices, with the game using the iPhone's internal compass and accelerometer to recreate the player's movement.

Players hold their iPhone in the direction they want to 'travel' within the game, touching the screen to walk. If you're in danger in the game, you shake the iPhone to attack. All exploration within Vanished is done within audio cues, as players move, the world "rotates" and provides different kinds of sounds.

Before it was shutdown, LucasArts were working on Day of the Tentacle

One of my favorite games of all time, Day of the Tentacle, was nearly released as a remake by LucasArts before the studio was shut down. According to a Kotaku source, the remake was "80% done."

TweakTown image news/3/3/33187_01_before_it_was_shutdown_lucasarts_were_working_on_day_of_the_tentacle.jpg

The source that was "close to the project" said that the Day of the Tentackle remake was to include updated art and cutscenes. The source also said that the DoTT remaster was a "dream project" for most employees, but it was never technically greenlit. So, unfortunately, even if it were finished, it might never have seen the light of day.

Now, Internet world, I request that a petition be made and it get thrown onto Kickstarter for crowdfunding to get it finished. Maybe LucasArts and Disney would reconsider, and release it to the world - as Day of the Tentacle has countless fans.

RumorTT: Pre-orders of Destiny might allow beta access

Destiny is inching closer to release, and now we have a huge tease: according to the official Destiny website, players can "pre-order Destiny at select retailers and receive admission to the Destiny Beta."

TweakTown image news/3/3/33181_01_rumortt_pre_orders_of_destiny_might_allow_beta_access.jpg

A Reddit user noticed the text, which has now been erased from the Destiny website, but still appears in Google's cache. Another post on Reddit pointed to the pre-order message appearing only on the UK and Canadian versions of the site. No official retailers are listing Destiny anywhere, even the big boys like Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart in the U.S. don't mention Destiny pre-orders just yet.
