NVIDIA updates GeForce Experience to version 1.7, includes ShadowPlay

NVIDIA has just updated its "GeForce Experience" software to version 1.7 and with the update, has launched the all new ShadowPlay gameplay recording module. ShadowPlay enables gamers to easily record video of their most exciting moments and quickly share them with the world.

 

 

ShadowPlay is a hardware-based encoder that reduces the impact that recording has on in-game performance and limits the frame rate reduction drastically over other recording methods by encoding to H.264. This reduces the exorbitantly large multi-gigabyte file sizes we are use to seeing, which equates to more space for additional videos, as well as a less taxing experience on the computers storage medium.

 

ShadowPlay is compatible with GeForce GTX 650 or higher cards, has two different modes, Shadow Mode and Manual Mode. Shadow mode constantly records gameplay for up to 20 minutes in Windows 8 (10 minutes in Windows 7) at full 1080p resolution. This feature allows you to press a pre-defined hot-key when something epic happens and the footage will be saved to your hard drive. Manual mode is what many of us are use to, and will record 20 minutes of continuous footage to the hard drive.

RumorTT: COD: Ghosts to feature 'Extinction Mode' with aliens

We're days away from the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts, with our own Trace Hagan preparing himself by getting his kennel into order, but now there's a rumor that there will be a new game mode featured in the latest iteration of Activision's first-person shooter.

The new mode will be called "Extinction" with the picture a tease, above. It looks like some kind of alien beast, a nice departure from the zombie mode of previous COD titles. Rumor has it that "Extinction" mode is unlocked once you finish the first five single player missions. There's some extra news to sprinkle on top here, with news that there will be 14 multiplayer maps included, and a 40GB installation on the PC, which has lead to the Xbox 360 version of the game coming on two discs.

 

The PC version has some steep requirements, such as a 64-bit OS and 6GB of RAM. Hopefully the in-game graphics can justify its steep requirements because the early words from gaming outlets is that Frostbite 3 on Battlefield 4 completely slays Call of Duty: Ghosts in the graphics department.

Obduction, by the makers of Myst, might include Oculus Rift support

I might be showing my age here, but Myst was one of the most amazing games I ever had the chance of playing when I was young. When I first got the chance to test out the Oculus Rift, one of the first games that I thought would be amazing to play in the VR world was, Myst.

Well, the award-winning creators of Myst and Riven are on Kickstarter right now trying to fund their latest title: Obduction. Obduction is an "all-new, real-time, first-person adventure that harkens back to the spirit of Cyan's earlier games Myst and Riven. Obduction resurrects that incredible feeling of suddenly finding yourself in the middle of a new world to explore, discover, solve, and become part of."

 

One of the most interesting parts of the Obduction Kickstarter page, is in its FAQ, where the question "What about Oculus Rift support" to which the answer is: "We are excited about Oculus Rift (we have a dev kit) and VR in general, and we'd love to have a stretch goal that heads that direction."

 

At the time of writing, Obduction was at $624,887 of its required $1.1 million goal. I'm sure it'll hit that goal, and continue to the $1.5 - $2 million mark, which should ensure Rift support. Obduction will reach Windows and Mac OS toward the middle of 2015, if it reaches its $1.1 million goal, of course.

Call of Duty: Ghosts on the PS4 will run natively at 1080p

Call of Duty: Ghosts will see a proper, large increase in the graphics department versus its predecessors, but from what we've heard this will be happening at 720p on the Xbox One from Microsoft.

News is breaking now that COD: Ghosts will run at 1080p on the PS4, which is an interesting turn of events. The news was confirmed by VP of Publisher & Developer Relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America, Adam Boyes, when he spoke at the Brazil Game Show. Boyes confirmed that Call of Duty: Ghosts is "native 1080p on the PS4."

 

So those in-game dogs are going to be looking mighty, mighty fine. Remember that COD: Ghosts requires a 64-bit OS and 6GB of RAM on the PC, so we should expect some high-fidelity graphics from the COD series, which will be a nice change.

Head back to Rapture in the new Bioshock Infinite DLC on Nov. 12th

Bioshock fans who are having withdrawals from their favorite underwater utopian society will be happy to hear that a return to Rapture is coming on November 12th in the form of a new DLC for Bioshock Infinite. The new Burial at Sea Episode 1 takes gamers back in time to the night before Raptures fall.

Booker and Elizabeth explore Rapture where new weapons are introduced, but gameplay heavily relies on the players stealth capabilities and how well one can manage resources. Burial at Sea is just part one of a two part series, with the second installment taking the title of "A love letter to fans." Not much is known about it yet, but we expect it to launch sometime in the spring of 2014.

Call of Duty: Ghosts requires 64-bit OS and 6GB of RAM

The final system requirements for the upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts has been released, with the first-person shooter having some steep requirements. First off, you'll need a 64-bit OS, secondly, a huge 6GB of RAM.

Sure, 6GB of RAM isn't that much these days, with lots of systems coming with 8GB minimum, but this is going to cut a serious chunk of consumers away from even being able to play COD: Ghosts. The CPU requirements aren't too bad with either an Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 or AMD Phenom X3 8750. GPU's also get a sigh of relief, with the minimum requirement only being an NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 or AMD Radeon HD 5870 or better.

 

With these minimum requirements, I'm hoping to see a good jump in graphics from COD: Ghosts.

The Sims 4 is on its way, will arrive next Autumn with offline play!

After the debacle that was The Sims 3, most thought we wouldn't see The Sims 4 for years, if at all. Well, it's coming, and it's coming soon. Next August, you can expect The Sims 4 with one big change: offline play.

We don't know much else about the upcoming game, but The Sims 4 including offline mode is something that I like to see. Even though there has been a bunch of expansions for The Sims 3, I'd like to see how The Sims 4 changes things up enough to warrant a big sequel within such a quick period of time.

Killzone: Shadow Fall was 290GB, Sony helped shrink it down to 40GB

During an interview with Eurogamer, Guerrilla Games' Technical Director, Michiel van der Leeuw said that Killzone: Shadow Fall was exploding out to a size of over 290GB, but with Sony's help the studio shrunk the first-person shooter to just 40GB.

Van der Leeuw said that most of the PS4 exclusive's 39.7GB consisted of high-res textures that were designed for the PS4. He said: "I think at some point the disc image that we were generating was around 180 GB. And if we would have put all the levels in, which we didn't, because then the disc image generator broke, it would have been around 290 GB of data."

 

He continued: "So we had to completely re-architect how we deal with data. And we did a lot of work - this is actually something I'm extremely proud of - to optimize our disc access pattern. Sony made special libraries for us because we were the first ones hitting these sort of problems. I think it's something that a lot of people will need to be doing in future."

Star Citizen is going to be the next benchmark in PC graphics

I've seen Star Citizen like most of you have, through a YouTube video or screenshots, but seeing it in person changed my mind about the Chris Roberts made game. I saw it in person, at 4K courtesy of NVIDIA's Editors' Day 2013 in Montreal, Canada and by gosh, did it look absolutely sublime.

 

 

Anyway, you'll want to get your retinas connected to the video above, and prepare your credit cards. This game is going to seriously make any PC sweat, with Roberts himself confirming to NVIDIA, who talked to me in Canada, that this game is going to be pushed so hard on PC, that you'll be forced to upgrade. We haven't had a game like this for quite some time now thanks to the transition to console development, but Roberts is pushing this on PC.

DICE to unleash Battlefield 4 'Flood Zone' gameplay later this week

Battlefield 4 is only days away now, but DICE is set to tease the world once more with some of BF4's 'Flood Zone' gameplay. The footage will be arriving as PC gameplay, followed by Xbox One and PS4 footage.

 

 

Flood Zone looks like an incredible map, featuring an urban setting, and the map being flood-able is a very cool feature. You can check it out above, and get a tease for it ahead of the footage coming on Friday.
