With Batman: Arkham Origins nearing its next DLC launch date, Warner Bros. has just announced the next title in the franchise. Batman: Arkham Knight will be the fourth installment in the blockbuster series that chronicles the efforts of the efforts of Bruce Wayne to cleanse the streets of Gotham City from the criminal scum that plague its streets.
Warner Bros. says that this will be the highest-detailed, and fully realized version of Gotham the series has seen, and the Batmobile will be derivable this time around as well. The game will arrive in late 2014 on the PS4 as well as the Xbox One, and PC. No word was given on an exact launch date and pricing was not mentioned either. Box art for the game has popped up on Reddit though.
One of my favorite Nintendo game characters has always been Yoshi. He was my go to character in Mario Kart. If you like Yoshi, Nintendo has some cool news. A new Yoshi 3DS XL portable console is coming this month.
The special edition console will launch on March 14. That is the same day the video game Yoshi's New Island will launch. The console has a lime green cover with Yoshi and an egg on front. The back of the console is decorated with a number of Yoshi eggs.
The console doesn't come with that Yoshi video game. The console will sell for $199.99 with the game selling for $39.99. The game sees Yoshi trying to get Baby Mario reunited with his kidnapped brother Luigi. I'm surprised that the console doesn't include the game in a bundle.
We have talked about the South Park game called South Park: The Stick of Truth several times. The last time we mentioned it was about a week ago when we learned that the game would be censored in the US on game consoles. The censored game will remove some scenes where abortions and anal probing are performed.
Many gamers won't miss those scenes. If you get the game for the PC in the US or in another country, the censored scenes will be intact. If you have been counting the days until you could play the game, that day has come.
The Stick of Truth is now available to purchase. The game has launched in the US on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. There is no word on when the game might launch for PS4 and Xbox One gamers.
Back in late February, Sony offered up some details on the PS4 game console and the number of units sold globally since it launched. The numbers showed that as of February 18, the console had sold 5.3 million units globally. Sales in Japan have helped that number grow significantly in short order.
Sony announced yesterday that the PS4 game console has now reached 6 million units sold globally. That is a gain of around 700,000 units sold in only a couple weeks. Sony also detailed some other interesting items about the console.
There have been more than 3.6 million live broadcasts and 56 million spectate sessions via Twitch and Ustream from the PS4. Sony notes that PS4 gamers account for almost 20% of all daily broadcasts on Twitch. Another interesting tidbit is that the share button on the PS4 controller has been pressed over 10 million times.
Watchdogs is one of the most highly anticipated games arriving on Sony's PlayStation 4 this year, but up until now, Sony has kept quiet about its launch date. We first got a glimpse of Watchdogs during PS4's launch event last year, and the game wowed us with its new style and ideas, but since then we have heard very little about the game other than a few features and specifications.
Today Sony accidentally let the release date for Watchdogs slip when it published the games launch date on its website. The leak says that Watchdogs will release on June 30, 2014, as well as showing a retail price of $59.99, and that 608 people have already rated it... This leak is most likely the result of a website developer testing functionality, and all the information could be false filler, that was entered for testing purposes.
Set in Chicago, where a central network of computers connects everyone and everything, Watch_Dogs explores the impact of technology within our society. Using the city as your weapon, you will embark on a personal mission to inflict your own brand of justice.
Chicago's overarching network is known as the Central Operating System (ctOS), and it controls almost all of the city's technology and information - including key data on all of the city's residents. You play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug, whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy. While seeking justice for those events, you'll monitor and hack those around you by manipulating the ctOS from the palm of your hand. You'll access omnipresent security cameras, download personal information to locate a target, control traffic lights and public transportation to stop the enemy... and more.
Rewinding back to January, Valve boss Gabe Newell promised that he would do an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, if $500,000 or more was donated to charity through The Heart of Racing. The amount was reached, and today was the day that Newell was meant to do his AMA... but he didn't.
Using uber math skills, we know that 3/3 and that Valve is scared of using the number three - but is Newell scared of stepping anywhere near it? Is this the reason why the AMA was not done today, and seems to have been pushed back until tomorrow? We should hopefully hear something tomorrow, but I highly doubt it'll be what people really want to hear about: Half-Life 3.
Monopoly is one of those games that you either love or hate, but Nintendo's Legend of Zelda and Pokemon franchises are loved by everyone. Imagine a world where those franchises were mashed up with the Monopoly franchise, and I guarantee that the word epic will come to mind. Fortunately you will not have to imaging a Zelda or Pokemon Monopoly game existing for much longer as Nintendo and Hasbro have teamed up to make them a reality.
This September, Pokemon and Zelda will arrive in Monopoly form with the Pokemon game taking place in the Kanto region of the popular turn-based video game. Each game will retail for $45 and will be released by licensing company USAopoly at major retailers everywhere. No information was released about if premium editions will be available, but I am keeping my hopes high for a premium edition of Zeldaopoly in a wood case and painted figurines.
Today DICE released an official response to all of the complaints it has been receiving about issues revolving around Battlefield 4's "netcode." While the term netcode is made up by the community, the issues in Battlefield 4 are quite real and very much a nuisance. For some players lag, rubber banding, and pre-mature deaths are causing the game to be unplayable and it all seems to revolve around network connection issues.
DICE says that it is currently working on problems ranging between faulty networking latency compensation, to glitches in the game-play simulation itself. Before DICE went into any of its fixes, it described how the game actually works. "The game receives updates from the game server and displays these to the player using a system called latency compensation - this system makes sure players move around naturally on your screen when network updates arrive. We have found and fixed several issues with latency compensation, and thereby decreased the impressions of "one hit kills" in the game."
Information and images from upcoming game 'Titanfall' is still being leaked. This time it contained a lot of information about the game which was present on the files of the BETA version of the Windows version of the game. The leak was done by 'FallenFusion' in Reddit's Titanfall sub-reddit section.
The game's campaign will have nine matches: five rounds of death match called 'Attrition' which can be played as either Intersteller Manufacturing Corporation or Militia. There's also 'Capture the Flag' and 'Last Titan Standing'. The 5th game type is called 'Pilot Hunter' mode where killing every pilot (human) is killed, but killing the AI opponents would lower the time to earn titans and the ability to regenerate the titan core.
Dark Souls 2 will be available for PC via Steam on April 25th according to the report. Earlier, Amazon listed the release date for May 31st, but an advertisement of Dark Souls 2 'Collectors Edition' which contains an art book, a cloth game map, game, official T-shirt and 'Black Armour Weapon Set' DLC confirmed that the game will be released on April 25th.
It is said that the game will have 4 times more resolution than the console version of the game, but will come with a cap of 60 FPS. Meanwhile, the PS3 and Xbox 360 version pre-orders are on, and the console versions will be released on March 11 in North America, and March 14 in Europe.
Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer recently replied to certain queries via Twitter which gives some good indication of upcoming games, including news about the next Halo title.
It is speculated that Microsoft studios is working on Halo 2 Anniversary Edition, though its also being speculated that there will be a Halo 2 remake. It will be interesting to get to know what 343 Industries has in mind for Halo, and whether there will be any footage, screenshots, official title announcement or any E3 2014 teaser for the next gen console from Microsoft.
Bethesda has confirmed that Wolfenstein: The New Order will be running at 1080p, but also at a silky smooth 60FPS on both the next-gen consoles. Bethesda announced the news through a statement to GamingBolt, in a response to reports that the PS4 version of the game would be the higher fidelity version.
But, that was wrong, as both the Xbox One and PS4 will be running at 1080p at 60FPS. Bethesda put it simply: "The Xbox One version of Wolfenstein will run at 1080p/60fps". This is some good news for Microsoft's struggling next-gen console, which seems to be second-best to the PS4 when it comes to gaming horsepower.
Thief runs at 900p on the Xbox One, versus 1080p on the PS4, and Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes runs at 1080p on the PS4, versus the piddly 720p on the Xbox One.
GameStop received some new Batman banners yesterday, which is teasing a new Batman game to be revealed next week. British game studio, Rocksteady, worked on two previous Batman games, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The last Arkham game, Origins, was developed by Warner Bros. Montreal.
Then we have the fact that Rocksteady held an event for reporters a few weeks ago, with an embargo date of March. GameSpot has said that the new Batman banner isn't being hung up until March 3, and with secrecy cloaking these new materials, the rumors are flying thick and fast. GameStop's are receiving a poster called "Zeppelin" which is being linked to Batman, according to an unnamed employee.
The Batman rabbit hole gets deeper, though, with GameStop's magazine, Game Informer, normally doing their big exclusive cover reveals in the first week of each month, which is next week. Last year's Batman: Arkham Origins was revealed on a Game Informer cover, too. Then we have the above shot, which displays "Available SKU" on October 8, 2014 - the possible release date of the unknown, and right now rumored new Batman game.
Today Dice and EA unveiled screen captures from Naval Strike, the next DLC in the Battlefield 4 series. Naval strike is a water-based map pack that is set in the South China Sea and features new weapons, gadgets, and vehicles. A new game mode called Carrier Assault is also introduced as well as the return of a favorite mode from Battlefield 2142. News of the new expansion pack comes just a week after Battlefield 4 Second Assault was launched for Premium PC members.
Water-based combat is one of the most thrilling things to do in Battlefield 4, and my time spent in fast attack crafts are a testament to that statement. Battlefield 4 Naval Strike truly brings the fight to the seal, and guarantees more intense on-water combat than ever before. A new amphibious hovercraft vehicle is included in the pack, and allows users to dominate both the sea and land over some of the most dynamic maps ever seen in Battlefield.
Action role-playing game Path of Exile was originally released towards the end of 2013, and garnered strong praise from game reviewers. The company's game is available to download for free and gamers don't have to worry about "paying-to-win," according to Grinding Gear Games, the studio behind Path of Exile. The studio is preparing to release its first major update, Sacrifice of the Vaal, next week to the delight of RPG gamers that have helped offer game input and criticism that is continually being improved.
Grinding Gear Games plans a major game upgrade every four months, with continued work to improve gameplay, add new items and features, and make sure gamers of all levels have new challenges and quests.
The levels are randomly generated so players have a unique environment with monsters in randomly spawned areas to fight. The Path of Exile Skill tree also has more than 1,400 nodes in the skill tree, so character customization also greatly alters each playing experience.
Fans of Grand Theft Auto 5 will be glad to hear than an update for the GTA Online game will be landing next month. GTA Online is the online world where players can play all sorts of missions with other players that launched in October of 2013. The new update is called the Business Update.
The launch of the update is tipped to happen on March 4. The reason it is called the Business Update is that it has a bunch of business hairstyles, suit jackets, sunglasses and more. The update is also tipped to bring with it new currency themed tattoos.
The really important items in the update are new weapons and vehicles. The weapons are not specified, but will include heavy pistol and special carbine weapons. The new vehicles will include three sports cars and a new luxury airplane.
Fans of Halo have been waiting in anticipation for news on when the next game in the franchise will be available to play. We heard rumors that Halo 5 was delayed until late 2015. We have also heard rumors that Halo 2 Anniversary would be launching this year.
This week Microsoft Studios' Phil Spencer tweeted a tidbit that will make fans of Halo really look forward to E3 2014 this summer. Spencer tweeted that Halo news will be coming at E3. He also noted that 343 Industries has a great plan in place, exactly what plan he is talking about is unknown.
The tweet came in response to a gamer that tweeted at Spencer a question about what was going on with the next Halo game. It's always cool when a fan can ask a simple question and get a response from someone with Microsoft that knows. It's cool to get a response even if the response really doesn't offer any more information than wait and see.
Microsoft has been updating the Xbox One console regularly since it launched. The last update brought with it the ability to directly manage storage among other things. The update also brought with it a bug that left some users seeing nothing but a black screen at boot up.
The next update for the console is coming in March and the update will bring with it additional audio options. The update will bring support for Dolby Digital sound. This was something that was missed by some gamers when the console was first announced.
The Xbox One launched with support for DTS Surround Sound. The new update will add the missed Dolby Digital to the mix. It will also bring a new setting under HDMI that will allow you to select Bitstream out. Bitstream out will allow you to select DTS Digital Surround or Dolby Digital.
Riding off of the incredible success of The Lego Movie, Warner Bros. has just announced it is working on a Minecraft movie. Roy Lee, who was a producer on The Lego Movie, will oversee the Minecraft movie.
Earlier in the week, Minecraft publisher Mojang AB made a deal with the movie studio. Marcus 'Notch' Perrson took to Twitter announcing the news just before Deadline posted details of the deal. Persson said: "someone is trying leak the fact that we're working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft movie. I wanted to be the leak!"
There's no details on what to expect, but it will be a live-action film based in the world of Minecraft.
Developers who sell their games via Steam can now set their own discount and sales on their own. Steam has confirmed that they have given the necessary tools to developers. The tool will also allow them to choose if they want to be a part of weekly Steam deal.
Doug Lombardi from Valve confirmed that the screenshot put up by a a developer with the username 'Sharkiller' was genuine. He added,"As with the addition of a 'Recently Updated' section to Steam, this is another effort to shorten the distance between developers and customers. This new Steamworks tool allows developers to configure discounts for their own products, on their own schedules. They can define custom sale periods or opt in to regularly scheduled sales. This will enable developers to better coordinate their promotions with events, announcements, or major updates they are planning for their products."
Japanese gamers who also happen to get their cable service from KDDI will soon be able to play video games on demand. The on-demand game service is coming by way of the GameNow service. This is the same on-demand video service that some LG smart TVs have access too.
The difference between this service on the smart TV and on KDDI's cable system is that KDDI offers the on-demand games over the cable without using an app. One potential downside to the on-demand games in Japan is that the catalog is limited.
Gamers will be able to choose games like Pro Evolution Soccer, WRC3, and Sonic Adventure DX. There may be more games offered by KDDI, but those are the ones we know about right now.
