App of the Day: Foursquare 4.0 (iOS) - adds Radar

By: Array

Our App of the Day today is Foursquare 4.0 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with iOS 4.0 or later.

With iOS 5.0 being readily available to the public now, app updates with fantastic improvements have been coming out thick and fast the past day or two.

The latest app to get a big and impressive update is Foursquare with version 4.0 that brings a new feature called "Radar" for users running iOS 5.0. It spices up the whole where are my friend's things even more by automatically telling you if a group of your friends are nearby - without the app running. It also has the ability to detect your location and notify you of a nearby To-Do. Very cool!

I'm yet to try out brand new Apple's Find my Friends app yet, but of late it is sure on for young and old with all these location apps. What about you, Google? Are you going to impress us with a new Latitude update soon, too?

With the mad rush of iOS app update recently with iOS 5.0 about to drop on the world, Facebook also joined in on the fun.

Yesterday Zuck and crew finally made the world and its iPad's happy by finally releasing Facebook for iPad. It's pretty much what I expected, but that's a good thing. It provides almost the full desktop Facebook experience on your iPad and they did a good job of it.

Besides the launch of Facebook for iPad, the regular iPhone app has also bene updated with some rather good user interface changes that I like a lot. Today Facebook released version 4.0.1 which fixes some issues with signing in after updating the app from an older version.

Facebook for iPad

With high-res photos, games, chat and more, now you can get the best of Facebook-on your iPad.

- Enjoy bigger, better photos: Your photos are high-res and easy to flip through, like a real photo album

- Navigate anywhere, fast: Just tap, slide or pinch to move from one screen to another

- Play games on the go: Access your favorite Facebook apps and games, wherever you are

- Focus on what matters: Zoom in on your friends' photos, updates and stories ...

Microsoft recently released its Hotmail app for Android devices, which is getting some positive feedback so far.

It is interesting to see Hotmail on a Google (Android) device considering the competition between Gmail (Google) and Hotmail is so tough, but it is there on the Android Market and waiting for you to give it a try.

The only official Microsoft mobile app for Hotmail that gives you easy access to Hotmail so you never miss an email.

Key features include:

Apple "Cards" app let's you make greeting cards, then Apple do the rest

By: Array

During Apple's "Let's talk iPhone" event that is going on now at the Apple HQ, Scott Forstall just got done announcing the Cards app.

TweakTown image news/2/0/20974_1_apple_cards_app_let_s_you_make_greeting_cards_then_apple_do_the_rest.jpg

No, it's not some type of new poker game. "Cards" is a service for your iOS device which lets you design a greeting card on your Apple phone or tablet and then Apple does the rest for you.

When mailed within the US, the cost is $2.99 per card. What is interesting is that you also get card tracking on your phone, so Apple must have sorted out some cheap rate with Fedex or such to offer tracking. The "Cards" app will be available on October 12.

Google Drive spotted in presentation, includes desktop and mobile sync apps

By: Array

Google has had cloud-storage rumors for a while now but it seems we're edging closer to seeing it unveiled. It was spotted at a Google-backed presentation, with an image of Google Drive sitting amongst a Google Docs section. Google Drive is expected to include desktop and mobile syncing apps to make it very, very useful as a cloud storage app rather than hide it within Docs as an extra. Google Drive is also reported to support folders and other utilities.

As for what platforms it'll support, this is unknown right now. Obviously Android would be their number one priority and iOS could be a second favorite. No ETA is rumored, although it's hinted to be "coming soon". This would make sense as Ice Cream Sandwich launches in the next two months, having built-in cloud storage for the mobile OS would be quite nice indeed.

Google Drive has been in development for as far back as 2007.

TweakTown image news/2/0/20882_4_app_of_the_day_google_1_0_4_2326_ios.jpg

Sure, Facebook has got all the attention of the web this week with all its announcements during its F8 Developer Conference, but Google+ is still kicking along.

This week it went live to the public and reportedly added 10 million new users in one day as a result. Google has recently updated its Google+ iOS app to version 1.0.4.2326 which adds Mobile Hangouts and Messenger (formerly Huddle).

Real-life sharing rethought for the web, wherever you are

Google+ for mobile makes sharing the right things with the right people a lot simpler.

* Circles let you share the right things with just the right people.

App of the Day: Facebook 3.5 (iOS)

By: Array

Our App of the Day today is Facebook 3.5 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with iOS 3.0 or later.

Facebook pushed out a pretty major update to its iPhone app yesterday (yes, we know - still no native iPad app... boo!). The update was pushed out just after an update for Google+ was released. Strange timing or is it Facebook fighting back?

The new update is a good one with many changes such as the ability to tag friends and places in posts, the ability to share external links from a web view and much improved group and profile wall designs.

Facebook for iPhone makes it easy to stay connected and share information with friends. Use your iPhone to start a conversation with Facebook Chat, check your friends' latest photos and status updates, look up a phone number, or upload your own mobile photos to Facebook while on the go.
