Some more titbits of information concerning AMD's dual-RV770XT GPU powered flagship, the Radeon HD 4870 X2, have been offered in this article from Fudzilla.

Report discloses information on AMD R700's status

Without disclosing its sources, the report indicates that the initial driver software has allegedly been ready since July 25th, with reference cards having been sent out almost two weeks ago.

However, it is envisaged that notable volume shipment of the HD 4870 X2 parts, is to take place after August 21st. That isn't to say, however, that a number of cards won't filter through the channel in time for the anticipated launch date, of August 12th.

The 2GB GDDR5 behemoth has been labelled with the part number, 102-B50902-00 and is the foundation for the acclaimed dual-RV770XT GPUs, that AMD hopes, will generate enough fuel to eclipse and, keep at bay, its rivals efforts at counteraction.
