R700 to steal NVIDIA's 9800GTX+ launch limelight?

AMD's R700 which has, just slightly, piqued the interest of enthusiasts, could be heading for a launch on July 14th, some two weeks ahead of AMD's original schedule.

Featuring two RV770 GPUs, 2 GB GDDR5 memory and an unmistakable cooling solution to boot, the AMD codenamed 'Spartan', certainly won't be skulking in the shadows.

It is believed that the HD 4870 X2 is already receiving 'autopsies-a-plenty' from the media, with product availability still on schedule for the end of this month.

Meanwhile, the supposedly now 2 GB, GDDR3 RV770PRO powered R700 that we covered recently, will be known to all and sundry, as the Radeon HD 4850 X2, according to this report from Fudzilla.

It is presumed that the HD 4850 X2 won't see the light of day as soon as its sibling, but may make waves as we move towards and, into September.
