NVIDIA GT200b to rain on AMD's R700 parade?

NVIDIA isn't resting on its laurels and will not allow, the performance of AMD's flagship HD 4870 X2 surpass it for long, according to this report from NordicHardware.

The self confessed answer to NVIDIA's troubles, according to the Santa Clara, CA based company, is the GT200b. In reality, apparently a 55nm die shrink of the current 65nm GT200, the GT200b will supposedly be pivotal in NVIDIA's planned fight back against the acclaim and esteem held by reinvigorated AMD's, HD 4800 series.

Whilst AMD's arch-rival still subscribes to its 'speed is everything' school of thought, it realises that a broadening of its forte is necessary. Where better to start, than by raining on AMD's HD 4870 X2 parade?

It is possible that NVIDIA is planning its own dual GPU solution, using the GT200b as a foundation for this and rumours suggest, that a possible September time-frame would be the prime time for an NVIDIA fight back. The 55nm GT200b may, of course, be drafted in to aid its creator in more than one battle with AMD.

Expectations are rife that AMD's HD 4870 X2 will clench power from the GTX280, however with NVIDIA staging its own comeback, the question remains whether this will be on a pure performance standpoint, or whether the company will attain success in the all-important, price to performance stakes.
