NVIDIA to counter-attack AMDs 4870X2?!

Published: 7th July 2008 @ 4:21 AM

With the hype surrounding the current crop of latest gen (GT200/HD 4800 Series) graphics cards now subsiding, much of the attention gets shifted toward one upcomer from AMD that is expected to overshadow them all; none other than the beheamoth that is the dual-GPU based HD 4870X2 (R700).

Given the amount of praise AMD's latest 4800 cards are getting due to their top notch performance and excellent pricing, along with the fact that they have yet another playing card up their sleeve with the upcoming 4870X2, one ponders if NVIDIA has anything else to counter-attack AMD besides the pricedrops we've already seen across the 9800GTX and GTX 260/280 cards.

According to Nordic Hardware, they do indeed plan to draw some of the attention away from R700 with rumours suggesting a monster is in the works. Unconfirmed sources are saying it'll be a 55nm 'G200b' GPU. We have no other information about it yet; more as it comes to light.
