COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2008 ASUS has given the sign that AMD are planning to get around the clockspeed limitations of existing Phenom parts by simply making them more power hungry.

In an official announcement by ASUS a short time ago, they have stated that no less than ten of their Socket AM2+ motherboards are equipped to handle an upcoming new breed of Phenom processors with 140W thermal envelopes, which is 15W higher than the existing 2.5GHz Phenom 9850 Black Edition.

Apart from the 140W consumption figure, ASUS only go so far as to say that these next generation AMD Phenom processors are equipped with blazing fast CPU core frequencies.

You can find the full list of supported motherboards here, with ASUS reporting that there'll be plenty more 140W Phenom-ready boards on the way.
