NVIDIA's 8800 GS goes into full swing

Stealthy launch

| Posted: Feb 1, 2008 12:19 am

Any doubts about NVIDIA's 8800 GS going into mass-production can be dismissed today. Though it is a quiet launch without any official announcements or PRs, NVIDIA has unleashed the GS variant of the 8800 series and it shows with add-in partners beginning to display variants of their own.

The 8800 GS sits neatly between the 8600 GTS and 8800 GT with its 96 stream processors, 550MHz core, 1375MHz shader and 800MHz memory clockspeed on the 384MB of GDDR3 sitting on a 192-bit memory bus.

EVGA have listed details about their version of the card here, and Tech Report have posted up details on a couple of juiced up Alpha Dog variants from XFX with higher clockspeeds.

We haven't seen any of these cards listed at U.S. online retailers just yet, but some European e-tailers already have them listed and in stock. In the case of French site Materiel.net, XFX's base model is priced at €166.39, while the XXX model costs €185.79. Considering the relationship between European and U.S. prices, we'd expect the cards to cost between $170 and $199 in the States.
