CES coverage / Space-age monitor spotted

Published: 6th January 2008 @ 11:49 PM

In attendance at CES which is now in full swing, GIZMONDO have sighted a magnificent looking computer monitor which puts everything else to shame. Not surprisingly, Alienware are the masterminds behind this extravagant piece of technology; what we have is a MASSIVE curved monitor made up of four almost completely seamless DLP screens which together output a resolution of 2880x900.

Physically, this thing stretches across well over three feet and carries a highly impressive 0.2ms response time. The seams between the monitors that you can see in the video and photos on GIZMONDO's website are being promised to dissapear altogether by the time the monitor goes into full production (which is said to be during the second half of this year). Pricing isn't yet known either; needless to say that it won't be a pretty figure.

The sighting: We can't have one of these Alienware curved monitors until the second half of this year, but until then, we've been abducted by its four nearly seamless and sharp screens of DLP goodness. Lit by LEDs, this 2880x900 monster is well over three feet wide and is said to have an other-worldly .02ms response time, great for gaming. The Soylent Green: You can see the seams between this monitor's four segments, but the Alienware humanoids tell us that flaw will be gone by the time this craft lands on Earth. The blacks look a bit washed out to our eyes, too. Price is yet to be determined.

A console RPG ported to the PC - sounds scary, but Mass Effect PC was in good hands with BioWare.

United Forever offers a great way for new comers to jump right into TrackMania, but series veterans should be warned - this is not a true sequel.
Assassin's Creed Director's Cut Edition PC Review
This console original feels quite at home on PC, but most criticisms remain.
