LaCie Unveils "Biggest Quadra" 4TB RAID

By: (more) | Posted: Sep 5, 2007 10:22 pm

LaCie have released an absolute killer storage solution into the market this week, what they call the "Biggest Quadra". Where does "quad" come into play here? Because it houses four drives in a RAID array. Each drive can be up to 1TB and LaCie are shifting 2, 3 and 4TB versions priced at $1099, $1599 and $2199 respectively.

RAID support levels are 0, 0+1, 5 and also 5+hot spare to allow for further expansion. The Biggest Quadra has eSATA, Firewire 800 and of course USB 2.0 connectivity as well.

Some other nice features are the unit's ability to react to drive, fan or power failures in the best way possible, and will auto-shut down if temps rise above 55c celcius.

Digit-life have all the details on it folks.

The Biggest Quadra reacts to drive, fan or power failure, and will even shut down if temperatures rise above 55 degrees Celsius (131 degrees Fahrenheit). Should a drive fail, insertion of a new drive automatically rebuilds data without any downtime.

The novelty ships with EMC Retrospect Express for Mac and PC. Since the Biggest Quadra is plug and play and driver-free, setup is quick and easy.

The LaCie Biggest Quadra will be available in September for 2TB and October for the 3TB and 4TB versions. Suggested retail price will be $1099 for 2TB, $1599 for 3TB and $2199 for 4TB. Drives ship with all cables necessary for immediate use. LaCie separately offers eSATA and FireWire 800 PCI cards.
