LaCie 1TB Biometric drive

Plenty of safe space

| Posted: Jun 25, 2007 1:38 pm

If you're looking for an external drive with plenty of space, then there is a lot of choice out there, but if you also want stylish design and a way to protect your data from prying eyes, then there's not too much choice out there. LaCie has just announced the availability of a 1TB version of its d2 SAFE external hard drive.

Apart from the insane size, it has USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 and 800 interface. It's shame it's missing eSATA, but this has to do with its advanced data protection features. It has a biometric fingerprint reader for locking and unlocking the drive. To keep the data safe it has AES 128-bit hardware encryption with automatic file encoding.

The design as always is very stylish when it comes to LaCie, although this is a company that primarily caters for Mac users, many of its products are PC compatible as well. The d2 SAFE comes with 1 click backup software and is compatible with Windows Vista.

At US$579.99 it's anything but cheap, but if you're paranoid about keeping your data safe, this is the way to go.
