Creative drops affordable Wav

| Posted: May 23, 2007 5:46 am

Creative has just launched its latest MP3 player, the Zen Wav. So far it only seems to be available on the Asian market, but hopefully it will be released worldwide shortly. Currently is seems like the Zen Wav will be limited to 2GB capacity and silver colour, but it's likely that other colours and sizes will be available if it proves to be popular. The feature that stands out are the integrated stereo speakers, something akin the Samsung YP-K5, but in this instance they're built into the front of the player. The Zen Wav is also supplied with a dock that is meant to enhance the sound from the integrated speakers. Sounds like a load of marketing talk to us, but I guess we'll have to wait with our verdict until we can get our hands on one and listen to it.

More impressive is the 30h battery life (20h with the speakers on) as this is pretty impressive for what is a fairly basic MP3 player. Creative hasn't skimped on the features though as the Zen Wav has built in FM radio, direct recording and encoding, built in alarm clock and a 1.5-inch 65k colour LCD display. The Zen Wav comes with software for transcoding AVI files so you can watch movies on the tiny screen if you'd want to and it can also display JPEG images. But the best part is the price, as the Zen Wav should retail for less than US$120 which isn't half bad considering the features you get.
