Corsair XMS3 1066MHz DDR3 at 1500MHz

By: (more) | RAM News | Posted: May 21, 2007 3:04 am

Shane has been playing around with some DDR3 memory for a comparison that he's working on which will be up later this week. We just figured we'd give you a quick little preview here of what he's been up to. Although DDR3 memory is still scarce, we've got some early sample from Corsair. The XMS3 1066MHz modules that Corsair supplied to us for testing seems to be quite overclockable and as you can see from the picture below, Shane has manage to hit 1500MHz with these puppies.

We're not 100 per cent sure, but we think this might be a record for DDR3 overclocking so far. As you can see, CPU-Z doesn't quite recognise the P35 chipset as yet and the actual timings where 9-9-9-24. This speed was reached at 1.5V, so with a bit of voltage tweaking, Shane might hit even higher speeds by the time the article goes up. The motherboard used was an ASUS P5K3 Deluxe, which is a DDR3 only board. These boards are supposedly selling in Europe with a 2GB bundle of DDR3 memory of unknown origin for €650 which is about US$879. Make sure to check back in a couple of days for the full story.
