Famed comedian passes away at 83

Actor Gene Wilder - best known for portraying Roald Dahl's beloved character Willy Wonka, has died aged 83.




Riding to fame in the early 1970's with 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' and collaborations with Director Mel Brooks in 'Blazzing Saddles' and 'Young Frankenstein' (which Wilder also co-wrote), Wilder last appeared on screen in the comedy series 'Will and Grace' in 2003 which bagged the actor an Emmy.


Wilder was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1989, and passed away due to Alzheimer's complications yesterday aged 83.
