Apple has bought out a motion-capture company who helped bring Star Wars to life

With rumors running wild of Swedish motion-capture studio Faceshift setting up for a buyout by the technology giant Apple, all has now been confirmed.

While the motivation behind this buyout is not yet clean, Apple stated that it prefers things to be that way, saying "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans." Rumors have circulated that this buyout could be preparation for upcoming virtual or augmented reality plans by Apple, with others believing that Apple just wants a piece of the Star Wars pie or that this is in preparation for awesome camera features in future iPhone releases.

While Faceshift currently offers a multitude of face-capture services, it will be great if Apple allows end-users to turn themselves into their favorite space-type character, be it Star Wars, Warhammer, StarCraft or anything else.
