Hasbro launches robotic cats for old people

Hasbro's Companion Pets line means seniors can have cats without the responsibility

Games and toys company Hasbro has launched its first line under the Joy for All brand. Known as Companion Pets, it comprises animatronic pet cats and is specifically aimed at seniors seeking companionship who are perhaps not in a position to take care of a living cat.

The cats are said to respond to motion and touch and have lifelike fur, mannerisms, and sounds.

Hasbro seems confident Companion Pets will be a success, as research conducted with seniors and their caregivers told them this is a real need not currently being filled, at least not at an accessible price point (that animatronic seal you saw in Master of None runs $6,000). Companion Pets comes in numerous breeds and costs $99.
