Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos recently took some time off for a family gathering, and that included a stop at the Dota 2 International 2015, hosted earlier this month at the KeyArena.
The event attracted more than 17,000 people, and hundreds of thousands watched the event live via Twitch.TV. Amazon purchased Twitch in September 2014 for $970 million, and the investment has been a successful one by Amazon.
"eSports has become a big thing. There were many, many thousands watching live... and it was really quite amazing," Bezos told The Telegraph. "I'm a consumer of media of all kinds. But that kind of media is a whole new segment that is very exciting."
eSports is undergoing a fast maturation process, with even more people watching live and previously recorded gaming streams. Dota 2 remains one of the most popular eSports video games, especially in North America and Asia, and there was a prize pool of more than $18 million up for grabs during the Dota 2 International.
