It was just a few days ago when BlackBerry CEO John Chen said his company could make the handset business profitable again, that didn't mean BlackBerry won't get rid of some employees. It's unknown how many employees are being let go, but most work in the device business - while BlackBerry adds engineers and select workers.
"We continue to grow customer-facing teams around the world, and we continue to invest in bringing in new talent to support areas of strategic focus around software, enterprise, security and the Internet of Things, for example," the company said in a statement.
The company remains dedicated to the enterprise, providing enterprise software and hardware, IoT, and cybersecurity.
BlackBerry once dominated the smartphone market, but was unable to keep up when Apple iOS and Google Android took over the market. Even though Chen continues to do a good job in turning around the company, there is plenty of work left to be done.
