- NVIDIA's SLI in action: Double-barreled badness

Indefinitely one of the coolest and most talked about technologies to have come upon us in recent times would be that of NVIDIA's own SLI multi-GPU rendering technology. This badboy design would naturally have one believe to bring an incredible increase in 3D rendering power, but of course at the cost of a capable SLI motherboard and two matching NVIDIA gfx cards. Scott from Tech Report has had an absolute blast of a time with his latest article checking out such a configuration in action with dual 6800 Ultras, he shows us whats truely to be expected in return for the hefty cost involved.

YOU COULD SAY that I've been burning the candle at both ends in order to bring you benchmarks of NVIDIA's new SLI multi-GPU rendering technology, but the truth is, I've been flat out microwaving the darned candle. NVIDIA's SLI tech is about as cool as it gets, and I wanted to see what happens when you pair up a couple of GeForce 6800 Ultra cards for a PC graphics solution nearly twice as powerful as anything else available. Not only that, I but I wanted to see how an SLI rig would compare to the latest cards from ATI and NVIDIA in today's biggest games-including Half-Life 2. Read on for a quick look at the performance of NVIDIA's SLI versus an array of competitors stretching down to the $199 mark.
