- Seagate 7200.7 SATA (NCQ)

On the hunt for a new mainstream SATA hard disk? Might pay off to check out ByteSector's review on the new Seagate 7200.7 with NCQ (or Native Command Queuing) technology embedded. Even if you're just wanting to get a better understanding of how NCQ works and why it's beneficial to the performance of hard disks (particularly in line with hardware of today), the article explains it all very clearly.

Seagate has always seemed like a small manufacturer in the market. Always right next to Maxtor in the low to mid-end drives, but never quite making it big in the custom parts market. Today though, they are the first to go public with a Serial ATA hard drive that sports an updated queuing function referred to as Native Command Queuing (or NCQ). This technology has been developed with the purpose of replacing the older, much less efficient Legacy Command Queuing (LCQ).

The technology was brought in with Intel's latest 900 series chipsets and just recently found its way into nVidia's nForce4 chipset. Seagate has done a great job at bringing this technology to the market without delay. This should make them a choice manufacturer for hard drives for all those people looking to purchase a new i900 series or nForce4 based system.
