What was once of the highest selling TV DVD series for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has now been abandoned, with "The Simpsons" showrunner Al Jean revealing that there are no future plans to release any more DVD or Blu-ray boxsets.
@theRealiHeart Simpsons fans are great (which is why we will do commentaries anything else we can). DVD market is dying. Did best we could.- Al Jean (@AlJean) April 8, 2015
In a follow up Tweet, Jean blamed the "collapse of DVD market and rise of downloads" as to why there won't be any future DVD or Blu-ray releases. Season 17 of 'The Simpsons' was released on DVD and Blu-ray last year, which leaves seasons 18, 19 and 21 through to 25 without a physical media release.
Personally, I blame the declining quality of the latter 'Simpsons' years for a decline in sales, just as much as the factors indicated by Jean.
