- DDR Ram Guide III

With BH-5 slowly but surely becoming as rare as hen's teeth, it's hard to decide on what the next best is amongst all the so called 'high-performance' memory floating around these days. If you take into account the reasonably low cost Samsung TCCD memory manufactured nowadays, this stuff may just be the ticket as Overclockers NZ explain to us within their latest DDR RAM guide.

The memory market has been relatively quiet in the last year or, as no manufacturer managed to supply an all purpose memory chip; it was either low latency (rarely seen in 2003/2004) or high bandwidth (high latency). Users were begging for memory chips like the legendary Winbond BH-5 or Samsung TCB3 (back in DDR-333 days). Luckily, Samsung recently released its TCCD which people found to be a very good all-purpose ram, as it is capable of 2-2-2-5 at DDR-400. As far as I can recall, Samsung TCCD is the only memory module that can handle 2-2-2-5 at DDR-400 setting beside Winbond BH-5, under normal circumstances.

Thus, we get in touch with several memory manufacturers and hoping to get some samples based on the Samsung TCCD chip and other popular ones, in order to map out the capabilities of different chips.
