Welcome to the New Server!

Published: 17th October 2004 @ 2:36 AM
Author: Cameron Wilmot

If you are reading this, you are loading TweakTown from our New Server which is based at a brand new server hosting facility in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Our new server is actually a little less powerful in terms of raw specifications but it is more powerful in the areas which are required by us – such as twice as much RAM. Our admin has set us up with an interesting program from Zend called Performance Suite which caches certain parts of the site and optimizes other parts. This means we should be able to survive links from Slashdot and so on and dish out data as usual. We are also considering bringing in another couple dedicated servers and setting up load balancing whereby if server 1 (this one) gets too busy all traffic will be re-directed to the second or third servers.

We are still finishing up setting up the server and getting everything running properly so you still may notice a few errors for the next little while. This new server will enable us to continue growing as we deploy many new features to the site over the next couple months. If you emailed us over the last 48 hours, it was not received – please send your email again.

Thanks for your attention and happy tweaking!
