- Logitech X-530 5.1 Speakers

Aimed at the mid-range sector with a very reasonable price tag of $80USD, Hard Avenue's first glance at Logitech's X-530's gave them the impression they were capable of excelling in this area and spent some time with the 5.1 kit to see if Logitech continue doing what they've always done best, provide awesome bang for the buck. If you want half decent 5.1 sound on the cheap, looks like these would be ideal.

We've come a long way since the time a set of speakers for your PC consisted of the cheap plastic, non-amplified, ugly 'wings' which adorned the sides of your monitor. I can recall being enthusiastic when roughly four years ago sub-woofers became the norm in our speaker set-up and we finally had a little 'bump' in our gaming rigs. As it has with every other aspect of the PC hardware market, the games industry has driven sales and innovation in the audio peripheral category quite steadily over these last few years.

- Half the Way to the Half-Life 2 with CS: Source

For those not already in the know, Valve's Counter Strike: Source final launched the other day, allowing all registered Steam users to start playing with an unlocked fully functional version of the new multiplayer FPS. Due to the much anticipated and highly polished Half Life 2 engine being it's base, this gives people an indication of how their hardware will take the strain of such an advanced engine and whether or not an upgrade is on the cards. XBit give us a stack of benching results on varying maps with a whole array of mainstream video cards across an AMD64 and P4 560 system.

We still are waiting for the Half-Life 2 to arrive, but Valve Software holds the wraps on any release details of the game that was supposed to be launched on September 30, 2003. Specially for fans of the world's most-popular online title, Valve launches the totally redone Counter Strike flavour, the Counter Strike: Source, with new engine, effects and level of realizm, but unfailing immersive gameplay during continuous counter-terrorist raids. But what hardware will you need for the siege?
