- OCZ DDR Booster

If you're an intensive overclocker but find it dissapointing to note that your motherboard's VDIMM options are rather limited, OCZ's revolutionary DDR Booster is well worth looking into, providing you with voltage options all the way up to a very scary 4+ volts. People all over the web have been reporting massive success in their overclocking efforts when coupled with this nifty product. Want more details? VR-Zone rev it up with an ASUS P4C800 E in their latest review.

Through their research, OCZ has learned that many enthusiasts have been having their overclocks hampered by low VDIMM voltages. Most motherboards have a max VDIMM of 2.9V to 3.3V, requiring the heaviest of overclockers to set up voltage mods on their motherboards to get more voltage to their memory. With more memory voltage, the higher you can clock your memory, and the better it performs.

To allow enthusiasts to easily overclock their memory, OCZ has recently introduced their DDR Booster, a device that simply allows you crank up the voltage your memory recieves, giving you a better overall overclock. Today we'll be taking a closer look at OCZ's DDR Booster, using a pair of famed (but discontinued) BH5 memory to try to achieve 250FSB on a 1:1 FSB to DRAM ratio.

- WinXP Service Pack 2 Coverage

As many of you probably know by now, SP2 for WinXP went final no more than a day or so ago. Martin from IANAG has been very busy in recent times putting together stacks of wholesome information for everyone regarding the use of the new service pack.

Firstly a couple of torrent download links are kindly provided for you here, followed by a technical preview of the not so obvious additions here. A Pictorial preview of all the goodies can be viewed here, and he's also written up instructions on how to slipstream SP2 onto your install CD here. Lastly, Martin also touches on the pros/many-cons of the new firewall feature, suggesting that disabling it is a good idea.

Anybody that thinks SP2's Windows Firewall is such a large improvement had better make sure that they know all the facts. If you believe you need a firewall you will still not want to rely upon SP2's built in Firewall. All of the hype behind Service Pack 2's Firewall may lead most people to believe that Windows Firewall is all they need to stay safe. All of the marketing buzz gives people a false sense of security. While this IS a large step in the right direction it still is nowhere near where it should be. Anybody currently using or planning on using SP2 had better read through this carefully to find out WHY it's not anywhere near as secure as the marketing team will try to make you think.
