This article is a bit of a guide/how to into the highly competitive world of benchmarking, a world full of rigs volt modded and with silicon pushed to it's very limits. Why do we bench? well first off it gives us bragging rites, secondly and more important it is benchmarkers who are pushing technology to it's limits, with out benchmarking we might not have had PC5000 DDR for another 8 months. Companies are forced now to out do each other, providing the best fastest, coolest kit they can produce. Benching also allows companies to find each others strengths and weaknesses and use that info to produce a better product for the every day user. Right the history lesson over with lets get on to the stuff you want, how to push your rig to the limits!
- Corsair Memory Announces XMS2 DDR 5300 Pro Modules
Corsair have a fresh PR doing the rounds today, announcing their XMS2 5300 (667mhz) DDR2 memory modules with latencies of 4-4-4-12. These also have the inclusion of their Pro Series heat spreader and activity LED's. You'll find that they've done away with 256mb sticks altogether in this range, only offering them in a pair of 512mb modules. This of course being completely understandable due to the higher demands on memory usage these days anyway. More information within Corsair's official PR.
Fremont, CA, July 6, 2004: Corsair Memory, Inc., a global leader in ultra-performance DDR memory modules for PC gamers and enthusiasts, today announced new XMS2 5300 speed modules at low latencies. These memory modules offer the incredibly fast speeds of DDR2 5300 and the low latencies of 4-4-4-12 with the added benefits of the Pro Series heat spreader and memory activity LEDs.
These modules are available in a pair of 512MB modules. These products are based on the new DDR2 technology which increases the memory bandwidth available for memory intensive applications.
DDR2, the second generation of Double Data Rate memory technology, includes new features such as a larger 4-bit prefetch and programmable on-die termination (ODT) to reduce signal bounce and improve reliability at high speeds. This new specification also utilizes 240 pins.
