- nForce4 and Soundstorm2!

Well this is certainly exciting news. The Inquirer has it today that nVidia have some more mainboard goodness in the works, soon providing K8 based "nForce4" solutions with dual PCI-Express support (for anyone happy to throw the big bucks at SLI), multi-socket support for *all* 754, 939, and 940 K8 based cpu's (incl. FX, Opteron, and Sempr0ns), a revamped Soundstorm audio implementation, not surprisngly named "Soundstorm 2", and several other nifty little enhancements. Information is scarce at this point in time, but it all sounds highly promising nonetheless.

NFORCE 4 will be the name of the project that will finally bring PCI Express to the Athlon K8 market. This chipset will be socket 754/939 ready and 940 compatible and all CPUs Athlon 64s, FX, Sempr0ns and Opterons will work on it.

The platform will have one to two PCI express 16 slots making this Geforce 6800 SLI mode possible for not quite as much crazy money as you'll have to invest in Tumwater and Xeon CPU.
