Daily News Round #1
- ATI All-in-Wonder 9800 Pro
Now that both nVidia and ATI have raised the bar with a new generation of graphics cards to take the lead, the option to upgrade to high-end previous gen cards becomes a lot more appealing due to an indefinite price drop underway. Gruntville have reviewed a card which falls right into this catagory, ATI's own branded All-In-Wonder 9800Pro. Although still a bit on the pricey side, it won't take long for that to change.
Over the past few months we have seen a myriad of video cards reviewed here at GruntvillE, based on chipsets from both nVidia and ATI. We have looked at mid-range and high-end cards from a variety of vendors and put them through the paces. Anyone who has been keeping up with them knows that I am a big fan of nVidia based cards. I've also stated in the Dawg Pound that I would not use an ATI card until one was built by Asus. Well, as we all know that time came and over the past year ATI has gained my respect again. The turnaround began with their production of technically excellent cards and (this is the key) stable drivers. However, there was always one exception to that "rule", the All-in-Wonder line of cards.
- Thermaltake Silent Tower Cooler
Looking for a relatively silent yet effective CPU cooling solution to suit your rig? TT's Silent Tower is one BIG heatsink, sporting heatpipe technology and measuring over 5.5" tall. Based on OverclockerCafe's findings in their latest review, it's performance characteristics are very impressive, yet it's 90mm fan only outputs 21dBa of sound.
We have all seen heatsinks grow in size and cooling ability but the attention now is on performance cooling that doesn't end up sounding like a Dustbuster. The advent of heatpipes has helped to make this a very viable option. Most of the higher end coolers available today are sporting heatpipes as an efficient and very effective method of whisking heat off a processor. With this added efficiency comes the ability to back away from the louder fans that drive us nuts. Thermaltake has combined heatpipe technology with the theory of bigger is better to produce the Thermaltake Silent Tower. Measuring a tad over five and a half inches tall the Silent Tower is one big sink.
