- Transcend - New Product Announcements

Coming out of the woodworks on the weekend, Transcend have released a couple of nifty products of which they've informed us about in the way of press releases.

First off, they let us know of their 2.5" USB2.0/FireWire Combo Portable Hard Disk Drive Enclosure, a fairly self explanatory device. It comes in 3 versions. You can either choose to purchase the enclosure on it's own, or with a hard disk included, being either 40 or 80GB in size. The maximum drive capacity is 160GB. For more details, grab the official press release here.

This device is fully compatible with USB2.0 and FireWire (IEEE 1394A) specifications, and it is also backward compatible with USB1.1 specifications. Data transfer rate is up to 480 Mbps (USB2.0) and 400 Mbps (FireWire/IEEE 1394A), respectively. With both USB2.0 and FireWire connections, this pocket drive can be easily linked to any desktop or notebook. Unlike CD-RW's, which require special software, pocket drives will appear as just another hard drive. There isn't any extra driver software to worry about (except for Win98). You can use this pocket drive as a portable photo album, portable audio/video library, or data backup device on demand.

Secondly, they've announced the availability of their 4GB High-Speed USB 2.0 JetFlash device, said to have the highest capacity of any USB Flash Drive, as well as offering a "true" read and write speed of up to 9mb and 8mb a second respectively. Pretty sweet transfer rates, particularly in comparison to the majority of similar devices already on the market. The full press release with more details here.

Transcend's newest USB 2.0 JetFlash comes in a sleek, silver shell: 64MB~512MB for mini size and 1GB~4GB for normal size. Continuing to use one of the most popular appearances of JetFlash in the past, Transcend's newest USB 2.0 JetFlash provides a hook and neck strap to keep it from getting lost and making it easier to remove from USB ports. These newest USB 2.0 JetFlash can be configured into two partitions with different capacities with security features, USB-ZIP, and USB-HDD boot-up functions. Transcend's USB 2.0 JetFlash offers a LED to indicate the usage status and a mechanical write-protection switch to enhance the security of data storage.
