- ATi's Catalyst 4.2's Now Available!

It's that time of the month again. Another fresh driver suite for ATI based cards, bringing the Multimedia Centre up to v8.9, and the driver itself to 7.98. This one focuses on some nice performance gains for DX8 based cards such as the 9200, 9000, and 8500 series, along with more bug fixes etc. across the board. You can read up on the release notes over here.

Additionally, some of you will no doubt be interested in what Terry from ATI pointed out to me earlier this afternoon :-

"I wanted to let you know that ATI in conjunction with Beyond3d.com and DriverHeaven.net have released a "SMARSHADER Effects" tool. This innovative new concept will let users create their own shaders and load them up on CATALYST. Both Beyond3d.com and Driverheaven.net will be hosting this tool as well as having great end user contests to get peoples creative shader juices flowing. These can be found here and I highly recommend checking them out at Beyond3D and Driver Heaven"

- 865PE Motherboards Roundup

TBreak have some very nice Springdale 865PE P4 boards rounded up for review. The boards included are DFI's LAN Party 865PE, ABit's AI7, Gigabyte's 8IPE1000 2004GT Wireless Edition, and Albatron's PX865PR ProII. All four boards do an exceptional job, TBreak had quite a task on their hands to pick a clear winner here.

The 865PE chipset was launched by Intel when they introduced their quite-successful 800MHz FSB based Pentium4 CPUs based on the Northwood core. Just last week the Pentium4 went through another revision with the Prescott core coming into play demanding slightly different voltages than the Northwood. Most motherboard manufacturers just needed to release a BIOS update to support the Prescott, however, some of them took the opportunity of releasing a new model. Today, we take four 865PE chipset based motherboards that have been released in the last couple of months, provide Prescott support and are fully loaded.
