- Computers Are Like Fish...

DevHardware have written up an interesting article covering the analogy of todays pre-built computer cases alongside the hugely popular world of modding. It's been said that Apple's influence actually plays a strong role here....

Up until about six years ago, home desktop computer case designs were all pretty much the same: beige, white, or even black boxes. With the introduction of the iMac in 1998, Apple set off a revolution in the basic premise of computer design. Form, it seems, was to be as important as function. With desktop computers being seen more as furniture and entertainment centers than workstations, it's no wonder that the way a computer looks has started to become just as important as what it does. But who should really get the credit for getting the computer design ball rolling? And where can we expect those designs to be in the future?

- Mini-PCs Are No Poor Man's Choice

With the immense range of pre-built SFF systems available nowadays, it's hard to decide which best suits your needs, TomsHardware help in making the decision a little easier by rounding up an assortment of these babies from Shuttle, Aopen, Biostar, and Soltek.

No more penny-pinching! At least not for buyers who know better than to keep an eye out for a would-be bargain at some discount chain. Two words go round and round in the naive buyer's head: Megahertz Gigabyte- and it still is not the performance you wanted? In no time, the customer understands - a $1000 (900 Euro) PC from the grocery store is not the best choice. And who would settle for an ugly metal box that, on top of everything else, has been optimized down to the last budget cent - with "price point" as the key concept? THG has warned against buying this kind of cash-and-carry item often enough in the past few years. Anyone who has trouble warming up to a $1000 budget-box will find a broad selection of mini-PCs that offer top-rate performance and are nice to look at.
