Daily News Round #2

- Windows XP SP2 Beta first look

The fellas over at ArsTechnica have taken an in-depth look at Microsoft's soon to be released Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (basing it off the current beta release). Overall, this service pack certainly looks to have more bells and whistles than the first.

If there is one thing Microsoft is preoccupied with right now, it would have to be security. Microsoft is in the news more for security problems with Windows (whether fairly or not) than any other issue. With other operating systems such as Mac OS X (Panther) and Linux (Kernel 2.6) getting significant updates, some are wondering, what Microsoft is up to? A few months ago, developers were given a preview to Microsoft Windows Longhorn. Longhorn is still at least two years away, leaving the rest of us who use the currently-available Windows XP wondering what the next big XP update will hold.

- Albatron Releases PX875P Pro P4 Board

Albatron have provided us with information on their new i875 based "PX875P Pro" mainboard, this one is said to have a very attractive price tag, but definitely not lacking features. Looks to be an excellent alternative to a springdale solution. You can grab the full PR by right clicking here and choosing "Save target as".

Consumers can take advantage of the PX875P Pro’s unique launch schedule and pricing strategies. With the price of FSB800 and Dual DDR400 technologies having fallen recently, Albatron has been able to match those features with the strengths of the P4 processor and deliver a high performance, conservatively priced board. To own this board the user only has to pay a marginal difference in price above an i865PE based system.
