Daily News Round #1

By: (more) | Posted: Dec 26, 2003 4:29 am

I hope you all had a wonderful christmas folks, now that i've delt with most of my hangover (it's 2:30PM boxing day down-under), I figured it was time to get things rolling again. Stay tuned for a roundup post too.

- Gigabyte 7S748 vs 7N400 Pro 2

There's a shootout over at CoolTechZone between two AthlonXP motherboards from Gigabyte, the 7S748 utilizes SIS's recent 748 chipset and the well known 7N400 Pro 2 driven by nVidia's nForce2 Ultra 400.

Today we will be focusing on Gigabyte's two fairly new motherboards: 7S748, which is based on the new SiS 748 Chipset and the 7N400 Pro 2, which is based on the popular nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset. Let's see how these boards perform in a two-way battle. Will the new SiS 748 chipset take the crown from Nvidia's nForce2 Ultra 400 Chipset? Read on and find out.

- Locked Out

There's an interesting article over at Short-Media regarding the business behind locked processors along with the longterm consequences/advantages foreseen in making the decision. A well documented read.

Do you really need 5 GHz of processing power to send email? Will a 10 GHz processor suddenly allow you to type 100 words per minute instead of 6? Will locking a processor end the enthusiast community as we know it? It seems like rain is beginning to fall on the overclocking parade but do not lose hope my enthusiast friend as all is not yet lost. Rest assured a new way will be found to unlock a locked processor and entrepreneurs will produce devices to make it easier. It has been done before and it probably will be done again.
