KDDI GameNow service will stream games over cable in Japan

KDDI will launch a new on-demand game streaming platform in March for subscribers

Japanese gamers who also happen to get their cable service from KDDI will soon be able to play video games on demand. The on-demand game service is coming by way of the GameNow service. This is the same on-demand video service that some LG smart TVs have access too.

The difference between this service on the smart TV and on KDDI's cable system is that KDDI offers the on-demand games over the cable without using an app. One potential downside to the on-demand games in Japan is that the catalog is limited.

 

Gamers will be able to choose games like Pro Evolution Soccer, WRC3, and Sonic Adventure DX. There may be more games offered by KDDI, but those are the ones we know about right now.

 

The GameNow service will launch in March. It will be offered over the KDDI Smart TV Box. That set top box launched back in 2012.
