- Frontier PC Silent XP2500+

The folks at SilentPC take a look at one of the very few complete prebuilt PC systems around (produced by "FrontierPC") that's focused entirely on quietness. It uses Chenbro's Gaming Bomb Xpider case and only produces 23 dBA at 1 meter from the front panel.

The trend towards quieter computers had its genesis in Europe and is probably most developed there, with standards and regulations established by many enlightened government agencies. The US follows next, due to the sheer size of its market. Canada ranks below these areas, but there are some signs of progress. (Surely we can hear the noise as well as everyone else!) Many Canadian computer stores sell quiet PC components from Zalman, Seasonic, and others. Very few offer complete prebuilt PC systems, however.

- The Winter '03 P4C-Based Buyers Guide

EvilKell from the IntelForums has kindly written up a guide for those of you looking to purchase a P4 based rig this winter, offering plenty of nice options to help you decide which components best suit your needs & budget.

Since we last looked at building a P4C-based system in our Summer '03 P4C-Based Buyers Guide buyers guide , the P4C family has not changed much, only adding the 3.2GHz speed grade. In contrast, there have been significant improvements to the P4C 'supporting cast' in terms overclocking, BIOS utilities, construction, and new technologies in general. Such improvements include FSB overclocking improvements, faster memory (esp. DDR500+ memory), along with greater S-ATA uptake which has pushed the overall P4C performance beyond what we had seen last summer.

With the aforementioned improvements, it's definitely time to take another peek at what an ideal P4C-based system is comprised of for both the budget-minded (mainstream) and unlimited budget (hard-core) buyer. We've also researched the lowest prices for our recommended components, from reliable vendors for you.
