Google adds the Sony Z Ultra to its Google Play Edition lineup

Sony adds its Ultra Z phablet to the Google Play Edition lineup of pure Android smartphones (NYSE:SNE, NASDAQ:GOOG)

Today Google announced that Sony will be joining Samsung, LG, and HTC in it's lineup of Google Play Edition smartphones featuring pure Android. The Sony Ultra Z is now featured in the Google Play store and runs Android 4.4 KitKat. It takes its new seat beside LG's G Pad 8.3 which also joined Google Play today.

The Sony Ultra Z phablet features a 6.4-inch 1080p display, quad-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, and 2GB of RAM. The Ultra Z is water-proof and dust resistant, while featuring 16GB of on board storage. An 8-megapixel rear camera handles imaging duties and a high-capacity battery provides all-day functionality. The Sony Ultra Z Google Play Edition retails for $649 on the Google Play Store.
