Fake Sunbeam branch in the UK

By: (more) | Posted: Oct 30, 2003 4:20 am

Sunbeam in Taiwan is a company we work closely with here at TweakTown. They specialize in manufacturing a complete range of modding products for your PC and have been in the business for almost a couple years now.

I was alarmed this morning when I got an e-mail from our contact at Sunbeam in Taiwan saying that two companies based in the UK (sunbeamtech.co.uk and pc-x-treme.net - who are both hosted off the same server) are claiming to be an official branch of Sunbeam, when in fact, they are not. According to Sunbeam, they are selling cheap modding products remarked as Sunbeam with reports saying they catch on fire since they are designed incorrectly. Other reports say that the two mentioned websites are taking money off customers and not shipping their ordered products.

I choose to investigate these claims further and failed to discover any real facts. However, I did attempt to contact the person who registered both domain names, Mr. O'Neil, but he did not add his phone number to his domain name registration details. Adding fuel to the fire that these claims are true, there are no offline contact details on either website, which also says something about the owner not wanting to be caught out.

All our readers in the UK should treat this as a General Warning. These types of business practices should be stamped out whenever possible.
