RumorTT: Apple to launch 'budget' iMac model next year

RumorTT: Apple to introduce a new 'budget' member of the iMac family in 2014 (NASDAQ:AAPL)

If there's one thing that Apple's iMacs aren't, it's cheap. This is all set to change according to an analyst with KGI Securities. Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple will be more aggressive with its iMac pricing in 2014, where it will introduce a new "budget" model.

Kuo believes that the lower pricing stamped onto the iMacs will increase shipments of the all-in-one PC by around 10-20% year-over-year. Right now, the cheapest iMac starts at $1299, which isn't cheap when compared to a decent all-in-one PC. Kuo says that fewer-than-expected iMacs were shipped worldwide after the redesigned models arrived late last year.

The analyst believes that Apple priced it too high, which has forced Apple's hand to prepare a budget iMac that will help shipment numbers in non-US markets.
