Innodisk launches Power Secure, a new power failure protection system

Innodisk unveils new Power Secure technology that helps preserve and recover SSD data in the event of a sudden power outage

| Storage News | Posted: Sep 18, 2013 10:27 pm

Earlier today, Innodisk announced a new patented technology that is aimed at protecting SSD data integrity in the event of sudden power outages. Dubbed Power Secure, the new technology is hardware and firmware-based and uses a low-power detector on the SSD to trigger a safe power-down recovery algorithm to help prevent data loss and ensure data integrity.

The new controller will complete the current operation by using residual power that is stored in capacitors on the SSD. The power monitor will continue monitoring external power conditions and will prevent further access to flash memory while the voltage levels are abnormally. When power is restored, the firmware will scan the SSD for errors and restore the drive to a readable state. Data that otherwise would of been lost in an SSD not equipped with Innodisk's Power Secure technology is then recovered.
