- NV38 to be called GeForce FX 5950 Ultra

According to drivers recently released by nVidia, their upcoming GPU codenamed NV38 will be called GeForce FX 5950 Ultra and will be released later this month during Computex in Taiwan. Anton over at X-Bit Labs has the full story.

In the latest Detonator FX 45.33 drivers that address flickering issues of the GeForce FX 5900-series there are identification strings for NVIDIA soon-to-be-released code-named NV38 GPU. Apparently, the official brand name for the part will be the GeForce FX 5950 Ultra.

- Athlon 64 next week?

Anton over at X-Bit Labs is also reporting that Japanese companies will take delivery of Socket 754 Athlon 64 processors from AMD clocked at 2GHz next week. Apparently, the processors will be sold together with MSI K8T NEO FIS2R motherboards for about $650 US in Japan.

The Athlon 64 processors will come more than a year later than originally expected and AMD does not want its customers to wait even a day more than determined earlier this year. Japanese web-site Akiba PC Hotline reports about AMD's first batch of Athlon 64 for Socket 754 processors that will be supplied to distributors in Tokyo on the 19th of September. In addition to the microprocessors, MSI K8T NEO FIS2R mainboards will be available right after the launch of the AMD64 CPUs for desktops.
