One device that could help Microsoft dig itself out of its hole is a refreshed Surface tablet, which the company has just announced an event in New York City for on September 23.
Microsoft sent out press invitations to a special Surface event on the day, where we should expect the Redmond-based company to unveil the Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro slates. We should expect them to look and act like the current Surface, but underneath we should expect a kick in the performance department.
The Surface 2 Pro should be the standout star here, with an Intel Haswell-based processor and 8GB of RAM. We should expect better battery life numbers thanks to the fourth-generation Core processor, and I'm hoping to see a 2560x1440 (or so) panel in the Surface Pro as well as a bigger screen. The Surface 2 on the other hand should run Windows RT 8.1 and feature NVIDIA's Tegra 4 SoC and a 1080p display.
