- New Shuttle XPC

 

Shuttle has released another one of their popular small form factor XPC units, this time in black, called SB62G2. It comes with Serial ATA RAID support and is based on Intel's Springdale chipset for the Pentium 4.

- GamePC on Windows XP 64-Bit Edition for AMD64

 

The folks over at GamePC posted their first impressions on Windows XP 64-Bit Edition for AMD64. As we suspected, drivers will be the biggest transitional issue from 32-bit to 64-bit Windows.

 

From everything we've seen thus far, drivers will be the biggest issue complicating the move to Windows XP 64-bit Edition at this time. Without proper device driver support, the OS will be limited to the native Microsoft drivers, and won't enjoy the universal driver compatibility which hardware buyers enjoy with Windows (the 32-bit variants) today.

UK Gamer sends word that part 1 of their look into AMD64 technology has been posted. In this instalment they look at the architecture behind the Athlon 64. This is a must read.

 

Whilst the Opteron, a 64-bit processor brings some very interesting features to the server workspace the core feature, 64-bit processing, is nothing new in servers. The Athlon 64 however, will bring this technology to desktop machines, an arena that has yet to experience this technology. Today we'll look at the core technology present in the Athlon 64, AMD64 architecture as it aims to revolutionize the desktop workspace.
