- Intel bags wireless networking gear

According to news.com, Intel has stopped selling its wireless networking technology. Hey, this should be good for other wireless chip makers!

Wireless networking technology "Wi-Fi is in danger of being overhyped, and to some degree we may be guilty of that by spending hundreds of millions of dollars on our Centrino advertising campaign," he said earlier this week at the Telecosm Conference in Squaw Valley, Calif. Otellini added that the popularity of Wi-Fi has led to tremendous pricing pressure for chips, but that's the nature of the business.

- FCC approval on Xbox wireless adapter

Speaking of wireless, Microsoft has gained FCC approval for its new Xbox adapter. This adapter will allow Xbox users to go multiplayer online! Sounds like fun.

Microsoft has come one step closer to offering its wireless Xbox adapter for the Christmas buying season by gaining Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval for the device on August 28.

The chipset in the MN-740 wireless adapter appears to be supplied by Atheros Communications, possibly its 2.4GHz AR5002AP-G chip, which supports 802.11b/g. The device also features user-configurable 128-bit WEP (wired equivalent privacy) security. It will compete with other products on the market such as Linksys's WGA54G Wireless-G game adapter.
