Today SanDisk announced that it has completed its acquisition of SMART Storage Systems, a key player in the enterprise solid state drive market. In a press release SanDisk says that SMART Storage Systems will be combined with SanDisk's Enterprise Storage Solutions.
The combined unit will be headed up by John Scaramuzzo, who has been the president of SMART Storage Systems and has worked in the industry for more than 25 years at companies such as Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum and Digital Equipment Corporation. Scaramuzzo will take on the role of senior vice president and will report directly to Sanjay Mehrotra, President and CEO of SanDisk.
"I am delighted to welcome the employees of SMART Storage Systems to SanDisk and to build upon our momentum in the enterprise storage market," said Mehrotra. "This acquisition enables SanDisk to address a large market opportunity in enterprise SATA products, and complements our strong enterprise SAS product portfolio. With this combination, SanDisk will have enterprise SSDs qualified with six of the top seven storage OEMs worldwide."
