ASUS stops manufacturing Windows RT tablets

ASUS confirms that it will cease production of Microsoft Windows RT based tablets, says RT is a failure (NASDAQ:MSFT, TPE:2357)

Today, ASUS announced that it will cease production of Windows RT tablets effective immediately. Jerry Shen said that Windows RT's lack of backward compatibility with Intel processors is the major reason OEMs are no longer able to support Microsoft's RT operating system.

Poor sales numbers also contributed to the factor, with Surface RT tablet purchases plummeting. Shen said that the entire industry considers Windows RT a failure. "It's not only our opinion, the industry sentiment is also that Windows RT has not been successful," said Shen.
