Amazon has made the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD available in Europe and Japan. Along with this announcement, Amazon has dropped the price on the Wi-Fi only Kindle Fire HD 8.9 to $269, down from $299. The 4G LTE + Wi-Fi version has received an even larger price cut, down from $499 to just $399.

Specifically, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 is now available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan. It's interesting that Canada still doesn't have the device available. The Kindle Fire HD has proven to be a popular tablet, though the cheaper 7-inch version usually gets most of the press.

Amazon is likely working on increasing production before rolling the device out to more countries. We're still waiting for the rumored Amazon-made smartphone and sales numbers for Kindles, but we doubt Amazon will ever be forthcoming with the latter figure. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the former makes an appearance.
