Christmas Day big for smartphones, sees record 17.4 million Android and iOS devices activated

By: (more) | Mobile Devices, Tablets & Phones News | Posted: Dec 27, 2012 8:38 pm

Smartphones were apparently a top gift this year, with Christmas Day seeing a record 17.4 million Android and iOS devices activated. This figure is 2.5 times that of the Christmas Day 2011. We have gained this information thanks to Flurry Analytics, who use a database of over 260,000 apps to detect upwards of 90 percent of all new activations every day.

When compared to the baseline number of activations for December, Christmas Day saw a 332 percent increase. Tablets were a large contributor to this figure, with around half of new activations being tablets. On the normal days of December 1 to 20, tablets only accounted for about a one-fifth of activations.

The information might not be perfect, but it should be pretty close.
