Pixar Desk Lamp-inspired 'Pinokio' brought to life through tech
One of Pixar's most iconic figures, its desk lamp, has been seen in a number of the company's films. Nearly every opening credit for Pixar has included its desk lamp bouncing around, but Adam Ben-Dror has created a real-life lamp that can easily have us considering adding it to our work desk.
Ben-Dror's lamp is called Pinokio and looks nearly identical for Pixar's desk lamp and, even more important, moves and reacts to its surroundings in a similar fashion. Pinokio is powered by six servos, a webcam and a bunch of other tech mumbo jumbo to have it aware of its surroundings, although Pinokio will always lose in a game of hide & go seek.
Pinokio is a pretty neat project, although I question just how good it is at actually being a lamp. As fun as it would be to play with a robotic lamp all day, that thing better shed some light and sit still when I need it to. After seeing how Pinokio reacts to being put to sleep, something tells me he'll make a terrible reading light.
